samantha morton is so good at translating grief on-screen in all its messy nuanced complexity. her depiction of iris’ journey toward understanding herself & navigating her needs (such a compelling exploration of sexuality / losing oneself in the desire for validation and growing through that) is profound—one look at her, one look from her, and you feel everything. a transformative actress whose character comes alive in the beating heart of carine adler’s world. i’m sad

cheryl hines directing a successful dark rom-com written by adrienne shelly starring meg ryan & kristen bell is too good to be true. everything just kind of… happens. devoid of tension, not funny, and more problematic than it is charming. i adore everyone involved and wanted to love this even a little bit, but it makes that pretty hard

self-awareness turned so far inward and bastardized that it becomes equal parts unrecognizable & insufferable. this is pathetically sad and painfully out-of-touch under the guise of some edgy hypocrisy that feels manipulative in its underlying narcissism. exhausting stuff

not wholly genuine, not truly thoughtful. it’s an *artistic portrait of poverty* devoid of proper political messaging, painstakingly hitting all the right notes to create an atmosphere it doesn’t earn. this is an overtly disrespectful act, at best, and the antithesis of authenticity.
