These movies hit the way they have because they’re daring to do what nobody feels equipped to do right now: locate the good amidst the chaos. A caring nurse. A loyal sister. A congenial, non-violent detective who balks at the sight of stupidity. Surrounded by the scum of the earth, they persist, and we love them for it. Johnson should keep making these until the apocalypse runs its course. If he wanted to bring Birdie Jay back, that’d be okay too.
