  Barbie 2023

  ★★★★ Watched 22 Jul 2023

  “Barbie” was not what I expected! It’s a very self-aware film that covers gender roles, patriarchy, existentialism, the role Mattel’s toy Barbie plays in societal standards and a few more themes that I think i’m missing.
  Thematically, those are all pretty heavy topics to navigate. But Greta Gerwig does so in a way that’s incredibly inventive. The ditsy esthetic of Barbie only serves as a vehicle to explore these themes in a fun way!

  Talk to Me 2022

  I experienced my first spine tingle in a movie theater… and it was during, “Talk To Me”. Granted I don’t see many horror movies in the theater, I can’t lie, I was scared watching this. The film was genuinely interesting, original and most importantly, frightening. 
  Performances and writing were great. Every setup has a payoff whether it’s through imagery or character development.

  Was very close to giving this 4 stars, but a few things stopped me. I really enjoyed this film though. I’m aware that the Scream franchise is unique only because of its meta qualities.   “Scream 3” is continuing the downward trend in quality of this franchise. It didn’t try to do nearly as many things as “Scream 2” but what they added instead was a ballsy, supernatural element.
