What leads you to rate a film 10/10?
I realised that I may be too stingy with my five-star ratings. Also in thread here.
I have now removed all my ratings for films I saw pre-Letterboxd apart from those I'd rated on Lovefilm in 2011-12. (Plus 3 pet hates that get 1 star.)
These are the films - including shorts under 1 hour - I've given 5 stars to since September 2012; a few were re-watches of existing favourites.
To give a film 5 stars I have to find no fault with it, enjoy it a great deal and think it's a brilliant and near perfect example of its type. (The last point…

To give a film 5 stars I have to find no fault with it, enjoy it a great deal and think it's a brilliant and near perfect example of its type. (The last point should explain why there is cheesy horror & action comedy here as well as the likes of Lawrence of Arabia.) Sometimes a strong personal connection blinds me to minor faults.
Perhaps I've given too many great films 4.5 because of minor faults or dislikes; I won't go back and change them now. (Okay, just one, as per comments.) But maybe I should try to be more lenient with future ones.
