Drive My Car

Drive My Car ★★★★★

this, The Leftovers and One More Time With Feeling are the best works about grief I’ve ever seen. a life saving experience in one way, a life affirming one in another. reminded me how to live with the memory of who I’ve lost, while teaching me about the strengths of communication beyond language. has two of the most emotional sequences I’ve ever seen in a movie, and about a dozen others that could be considered some of the best ever filmed. it made me remember why I fight to stay alive, why I continue to love even with the knowledge of the pain it can lead to, why I want to tell stories and direct things. I will think about the exchange on the snowy hill and the extended conversation in the back of the car for the rest of my life. grief won’t leave me but neither will the memories of her, because I’ve shared them with others. she exists in more than just my body and soul, her essence is scattered throughout the universe, present amongst the stars.
