Zach a.m.’s review published on Letterboxd:
Heavily-stylised violence is bad ....
.... unless it's stylised to suit my sensibility, in which case it's great. And Drive is great.
Drive is the great spiritual sequel to Punch-Drunk Love. Both are set in contemporary Los Angeles. Both feature protagonists who have a love interest who takes their care to a garage. Both have their love threatened. Love makes both stronger than they've ever known and inspires extreme acts of violence in defence of that love. The primary difference is that Punch-Drunk Love is rom-com and Drive is a Paul Schrader esque revenge thriller. Both are equally rewarding in their own right though.
