A total chore. Insufferably dreary and self-serious and lacking in any directorial intent or authority, just big fat meh. Sheridan is nothing without a good director.
Viewing a second time and now more on board with the ending, expecting traditional catharsis and uplift from a Yorgos movie seems like a waste of time at this point. Olivia Colman is great, but I think Emma Stone, who is usually able to coast by on her charm alone (more than enough for me) might actually be the standout performer here in what I think is her best performance yet.
