Ian Fastert’s review published on Letterboxd:
Somehow, visually, the movie this is closest to us Speed Racer. I’ve never seen colors like this pop in such naturalistic spaces before, and the editing and camera movement jerk and flash around as if they were controlled by a cinematographer on coke because...well everyone’s on coke. Welcome to Vegas baby.
Also like Speed Racer, Casino feels like a miracle of cinema, a 3 hour movie where every shot and every edit finds some way to surprise me and every second pulls you into a world where everything is fake and everyone is in a race to tear apart their lives the fastest. It’s one of the most beautiful, boldest, and most reflective films of his career, only outdone by the even more extensive reflection seen in The Irishman. I can’t wait to see more of his films.
