(prolly gonna be edited tomorrow idk)
this is to all the ppl who petitioned to cast adam driver as bobby in company!!! are yall happy now???
i don't really know what to feel about this. i did enjoy the experience watching this with my friends (us nitpicking baby annette in the chat??? perfect). i did found myself laughing at some parts of this which i don't know if they were intentional.
but do i find this good? i don't know. annette really looks like a film that i would really love. it's a musical. it revolves around a man whose heart was consumed by jealousy that it rotted every fiber of love inside of him (aka men are shit stories).
the production design was grogeous. the green screen portions felt tacky but i think that was the point. i think the cinematography too was nice.
the songs composed by sparks are excellent in my opinion. i do enjoy their music and it was such a treat to hear something new from theirs here.
the performances are great. i do think they're planning to campaign adam driver for an oscar. marion cotillard is magnificent here. the supporting cast were great as well, especially the crowd who served as the company of this musical.
the only film of leos carax i've watched was holy motors and i have mixed feelings on that as well. i do not know whether i like his style or not, but i appreciate his effort on trying to be original and innovative. with this, i am also mixed. hopefully if i ever had the energy to rewatch this, i'll finally form a solid opinion on this.
overall, annette is a wild ride i am grateful i get to experience with my friends. i can imagine this gaining a cult following in the future. maybe i'll be part of that cult. or maybe not. time can only tell.
(((OHHH THE SONDHEIM SHOUTOUT AT THE END CREDITS LOLOLOL THAT'S WHY I INCLUDED THE MARRIAGE STORY THING)))
