Beautifully shot and composed. Filled to the brim with gorgeous locations and people. My favorite song of the film has to be Brown Skin Girl.
The older I get, the more convinced I am that food is the purest form of art. It provides substance to survive. It is a beautiful outlet for creativity. It is a core pillar to almost every religion. It is a time capsule for culture and heritage. It fosters community in a kind of supernatural way. Food weaves a common thread through all humanity.
I don't think there has been a movie to better capture this feeling than Ratatouille.
I think it is wonderful. Yes, there are some pacing issues, some huge plot contrivances, some really weird dialogue, and it can be emotionally manipulative at times. But it is nothing less than beautiful. Life Itself captures what it is to live in such an encompassing way, with all it's heartbreak and all it's joys.
This movie draws a good deal of inspiration from the 2013 Tomb Raider game. The game has a pretty messy story that is quite over the top, but it overcomes that with its charm and some pretty decent gameplay. On the other hand, there really isn’t much to save this adaptation.
