I’ve never left a film early before, but if I had seen this in cinemas I would’ve been running out by the 45 minute mark like someone had set me on fire. A hellhole of capitalist flexing under the guise of anti-capitalist free thinking and individuality. At multiple times I swear I felt my soul die. I miss the days where we thought the IP-owning-conglomerate flexing of Space Jam 2 was the most insidious piece of studio filmmaking we’d see this decade, because I can’t imagine it getting much worse than this. At least there’s not a mountain of He’s All That-style product placement.
Perhaps the best microcosm for the entire cultural decline this film represents is the sell-out performance Taika Waititi gives, like yeah Ragnarok is great but if this is the trade off then I’d rather other filmmakers of actual talent like him never make it big.
