To Live and Die in L.A.

To Live and Die in L.A. ★★★★½

Oh Friedkin, you’re killing me with that ending. That is surely one way to end a film. But what an absolutely unexpected way to finish it as well. If anything, that climax of an ending is a sure affirmation of William Friedkin being one of the best filmmakers around. Just a gorgeous film that captures Los Angeles in such a mysteriously desolate and hostile light, almost painting it as a dry desert of crime, corruption and injustice; a barren, outlawed wilderness ran wild. Another top-tier William Friedkin masterclass.
