A good man and brilliant musician who deserved a much better movie. Watch it for the interviews with his parents and partner, they give far more insight than any record exec or Philip Glass ever could.

The skyline shots felt a bit gratuitous to me, but as long as the scenes were indoors this movie ripped. It's a romanticized portrayal of family but in the literary sense, of how it emphasizes the conflicts without saying them aloud, only hinting at the tensions. It isn't idealized, is what I mean. Very good camerawork too, the kind of story that could hypothetically be told on a stage but the use of shot/reverse shot adds so much.

Has me afraid to check out more Waters because I'd hate to be shown how he tops this, I just can't stand being wrong.

I just want to go on record that these boys, the Maels, are two of my favorite people on earth. Not in an idolatrous sense, but more like "these people are fascinating and encapsulate something special about the human spirit that is invaluable to have documented" and Wright does a fine job framing it as such.

And yeah the songs all kick ass. Gonna need to actually hear more of the "bad" albums cos the songs they featured make even those sound good.
