Normal People

Normal People ★★★★

It suffers from some of the same narrative issues that existed in its source-material, but Normal People is a mini-series that is genuinely moving and realized with extraordinary care. It's a tremendous effort from co-directors Lenny Abrahamson (who helms the intimate and tender first half) and Hettie Macdonald (who gets burdened with the loftier, more melodramatic second) as well as its two remarkable leads, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal, who are vulnerable and warm throughout. It's one of the most refreshingly mature takes on modern dating that I've seen in a while, and should be recognized widely for its delicate intimacy.
