I honestly don’t really know about this one. It does feel like Julia Ducournau was so excited about writing two new scripts that she ran so fast through the hallway in her office and dropped them, then very hastily put them back together... and directed the new mish mash of a film as confidently and earnestly as she could.

That isn’t really to say it doesn’t work. It’s just weird. Very weird. That feels like an understatement... it’s phenomenally weird...…

So this started and for a second I genuinely started thinking... wait did I accidentally load in the wrong movie. I know this is a movie about the glam rock scene of the 70s.... so why is it starting like Finding Neverland and becoming citizen Kane

Citizen Kane structure aside I actually think this movie does very good job of feeling it’s way through the explicitly queer nature of the 70s glam rock movement... the Christian bale character is its core.

    Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

I can imagine a conversation with myself from five years ago...

Past Me: So what did you watch last night?

Present Me: Oh I saw Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

Past Me: Wow really? Terrible wasn't it.

Present Me: Not really, I quite liked it

Past Me: Why? It's melodramatic, completely over the top, and overly sentimental.

Present Me: Yes, yes it is.

Past Me: And you still liked it?

Present Me: Yes, yes I did.

    Marriage Story

My mother is crying and talking to me about how hard relationships are. She’s been processing out loud the challenges of marriage and motherhood. She does this every time we watch an emotional movie but I’m never fully prepared for it. None of the three of us is sleepy even though it’s quite late. My father is making us all Camomile tea.

People have often asked me why I still watch almost every movie with my parents... It’s for this…
