just when i tought every film i liked 4 years ago was going to disappoint me, i came across billy elliot again. i used to love it, but now, 4 years later, after studying film, i realize that i ADMIRE it. it's close to perfection! the acting is brilliant (smol jamie bell, OMFG), the script and the character development are solid, the music is AMAZING, the editing is very poignant and interesting.... and julie walters, QUEEN!!!!!!…

The best gangster flick is the one who makes fun of gangster flicks. And this one stands in the middle of a parody and an homage to the genre. It's an interesting movie, with good performances, well shot and written, but it just doesn't captivate me as much anymore. There's so much about this type of film about white straight cisgender men, and I'm just a bit over it. The sexists jokes are here, the racists…
Favorite Movies Challenge 013/103
this is the clear exemple of why you need to rewatch a movie you once considered "a favorite". don't get me wrong, scorsese is a great director, and his unique style shines through in this, but the way it handles its story is really complicated for me. it stands in the line of criticizing/making satire off of a completely absurd and problematic lifestyle, and kinda glorifying it.
truth is, jordan belfort is a piece of garbage,…
this is truly heartbreaking and mesmerizing. can't quite put to words the intensity of it, the extreme closeness and intimacy you get with evan and his family, or the fact that everything was so well documented that it feels like you're walking on those rooms, reading those notes, going through those motions. it's like if they knew evan's story was one to be remembered and retold in film, and it shows.
i can't quite decide if it's manipulative or not,…
i think i've never seen a movie as sensorial and representative of the film medium. it doesn't necessarily tells a story: it recollects memories and organizes them in a random, instinctive, emotional, poetic logic.
even though it kinda lost me sometimes, its directing and editing are very original and impressive. the sound design... GOD it's amazing! the use of music is incredibly poignant and significative.
even though i'm not sure i was entertained, i was surely mesmerized. hoping to rewatch this soon.
