Big Trouble in Little China

Big Trouble in Little China ★★★★½

Another absurdly fun Carpenter gem I’ve just now unearthed from my hefty watchlist. So, so good. The production design just gets better and better, the score from Carpenter himself and Alan Howarth is killer, it’s tightly paced and the effects are dated in probably the best way. It’s constantly high off its own energy and Kurt Russell provides a character so memorable he may even rival the one and only R.J. MacReady. A wacky adventure spectacle that had me from beginning to end. Even more so, it may be one of my favorites from the legendary horror director and frequent Dean Cundey collaborator.
