The beginning song, despite being one of the most beautiful fucking things to ever exist, is about how turning 30 is scary and I absolutely must disagree with it. Like for god’s sake, turning 30 isn’t so bad. It’s fine!! It really is. it happens like this: All that happens is that when the clock strikes midnight on your birthday, you sprout wings the size of your whole body and your skin hardens into scales. Each of your hands transforms into a single claw. Meanwhile, your legs combine together and turn into one huge leg with a flapping little fin on the bottom. Your head falls off, but your brain stays. Your brain is your head now. The sun falls out of the sky. The FBI arrives at your home and takes your phone away. Sephora emails you a coupon for one free bearded dragon, and you must collect it from their store within 3 days or they sell your credit card information to a guy named Mitchell, who is 29 by the way. A few other things happen. It’s not a big deal.
In all honesty this musical is good and Jonathan Larson left the planet tragically too soon. My fucking god his music is stunning and the world is better for it existing.
