    What a strange film. As a pure action/thriller, Sorcerer works incredibly well; I would go so far as to call some of the sequences in this film genuinely great, the rope bridge especially.     The first two thirds of this film surprised me quite a bit with a slow-paced, character-focused, intelligent and self-reflexive approach to what could easily have been one of the most gratuitous spectacles in cinema history.     This feels like more than a film to me; I think the reason I immediately tell people that Paddington 2 is my favourite is because it feels like a friend. As someone who for the most part connects to media more than people - as sad as it sounds - there is something so raw and human under the surface of this already perfect film that tells me I'll be watching it for the rest of my life. A classic.
