This was really cute and heartwarming, it was a really enjoyable watch for me. However, I think a lot of the emotional impact was lost on me due to the fact that this was a comedy. I understand that that’s what director Roberto Benigni was going for when making this film, but I couldn’t help but think that I would’ve liked it more had it taken itself a little bit more seriously.
Basically what I’m saying is that this is a tragedy/comedy, but the tragic elements were underdeveloped, in my opinion. It wasn’t as tragic as I was expecting it to be, but that might have been for the better in my sake. I don’t know if my heart could’ve handled the way I was expecting it to go. Overall, it was very heartwarming and cute, but it could’ve relayed a more powerful message.
