    i do love soft stop motion shorts

    Β£3 25-and-under ticket at the BFI seeing the 4k restoration.

    genuinely very moving. the shots were beautifully composed. the lighting was always beautiful.
    I enjoyed discovering that this was a film about essentially pure-hearted characters, and the plot wasn't driven by artificial character betrayals or cheap plot points. it was incredibly heart-warming and incredibly real.

    its only weakness for me was in the mother. she was almost too ephemeral, too elusive that she almost didn't make sense. her booth scenes…

    An overly polished film that severely lacks any heart.
    I think the film suffers largely through its too-heavy reliance on contextual sympathy for Diana, and forgets that within its own diegesis it needs to establish likeability - a reason for emotional alignment - and it just... fails to do that.
