First of all, I’m just so happy that I got to see this movie in a theatre. This wasn’t just a movie, but an experience.
The animation was breathtaking, and the contrast between the countryside and the city of Tokyo illustrated perfectly Japan today. Some shots looked even too good to be animated, they just looked… real to me. Besides the perfection of the animation, the characters ! oh god the characters. You get to know them, you laugh with them, you feel your heart melt, or breaking, depending on the situation. You’re never bored, you always want the movie to be just a little longer.
It’s like a beautiful dream, those who feel real, that you never want to wake up from, and that you never want to forget. I’m struggling as I write those words because I want to write my exact feelings, just as I felt them when I got out of the theatre with stars in my eyes, but I feel them slip away. Just like Mitsuha and Taki forgot each other’s name. I don’t think any words could express what this movie made me feel a few hours ago, because it moved me in a way I wouldn’t be able to describe. Just do yourself a favor and go watch Your Name, you won’t feel the same afterwards.
