The wolf of wall street. Takes on the appearance of a noir yet with almost none of the plot devices. Small time crooks entwined in big city economics, disaster is imminent. Ruthlessly talky, but the talk is surprisingly totally engaging: family, corruption, morality, and existentialism as seen through the eyes of John Garfield’s twisted lawyer persona, as he destroys the lives of everyone he comes into contact with solely to make an easy profit. A surplus of old school NYC locations is just the cherry on top.
