Weird how the sequel to Sharkboy and Lavagirl isn’t even the most bonkers superhero movie Pedro Pascal was in this Christmas...

Feral Children Running Around Stunningly Shot Locales Screaming, or Where the Beasts of the Southern Wild Things Never Land: A Benh Zeitlin Picture

When Wendy works, it works and when it doesn’t it REALLY doesn’t. Zeitlin’s signature brand of magical realism used so effectively in Beasts of the Southern Wild (I think Wallis’ transcendent performance was a big factor there), here just feels like a mess of interesting ideas and beautiful images that never quite coalesce into a wholly satisfying film.…

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Lawyer: Everyone gather round. We will now be reading the will.

Me, a person who has seen more than 5 movies in his life: His asshole dad isn’t going to leave him anything.

Lawyer: And finally, I leave my eldest son, Frank nothing...

    Me: Called it.

Lawyer: Nothing but my wishes for an eternity roasting over the rainbow colored flames of Gay Hell because that’s where homos go and my son Frank is a homo. A big one.

Me: Well now, that seems excessive even by cliche bigot movie dad standards.

  • The Life Ahead

    The Life Ahead

    ★★½

The legendary Sophia Loren is MAGNIFICENT and Ibrahima Gueye makes a really impressive debut... but that’s about all I have to say. Their performances, while MASSIVELY elevating the material, cannot sustain what is ultimately a muddled and undercooked narrative. In less capable hands this would likely be a complete mess. As it is, this is... fine(?) but not something I can really recommend to anyone but the most devoted of Sophia stans.

And what on earth was up with the bad CGI lion?

What do you get when you attempt to combine elements of Coco, Moana, Frozen and countless other Disney greats into one film?

Enter Over the Moon- Netflix’s fine, if ultimately derivative, animated musical. I hate to say it, as she is no longer with us, but I have to lay a good bit of the blame on Audrey Wells’ screenplay which feels formulaic and rushed. The animation itself is gorgeous and seeing the representation of Chinese culture is wonderful but the…

Should have been called Netflix vs Blockbuster. The transition from David to Goliath is interesting but feels very state sanctioned and definitely shies away from anything that would portray Netflix in a negative light. Still, I enjoyed the look at the quirky and humble beginnings of the streaming giant even if the execution leaves something to be desired. Also, I watching this on Amazon😂
