Mikael Stånggren’s review published on Letterboxd:
Is it just me, or does fictionally older, balder Ryan Gosling bear a striking resemblance to his non-fictionally older, balder friend & director Derek Cianfrance?
At any rate, the long lost brothers have made quite a picture together. Sad, yet beautiful. Disenchanting, yet inspired. And all the while, throughout its nonlinear jumps, so authentic and powerful that it physically hurts.
Me and my own girlfriend, I'm happy to say, are still in the passionate, argument-free premarital phase. Blue Valentine hasn't put me off from tying the knot, but it has carved into my head, like a chisel upon stone, to keep being an attentive, caring boyfriend that never for a moment takes her for granted.
Translation: This film is scary as f**k!
