This is absolutely the kind of high concept maximized filmmaking I’m here for, and is such it’s own thing in comparison to my only previous Iwai, Lily Chou Chou. The opening preamble is so perfectly framed, and all of original music contributions, along with the production design, create a feature so staggeringly catered to my tastes I cannot believe this came out during my potentially least favorite decade of 20th century cinema.
