The Mummy's Hand

The Mummy's Hand ★★★

The December Project: Film #105

Universal's reboot of the series unsuccessfully begun 6 years earlier with The Mummy does very little indeed to address the issues I had with that film, easily the weakest among the studio's most recognisable monster stable. The Mummy's Hand is, like its predecessor, perfectly watchable fare, but it hasn't the thematic weight of its better equivalents in the Frankenstein or Dracula franchises, for instance, nor the benefit of a particularly interesting story even. If Karloff couldn't do it there's no surprise someone else couldn't either: I'm just not convinced mummies make for terribly good monsters.
