Barton Kimball’s review published on Letterboxd:
Okay so the movie is basically just Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in the 70's. But that amounts to a lot of awesome. Crowe and Gosling's chemistry on screen is nothing short of amazing. Shane Black's script gives them the perfect vehicle to flex their comedic chops. The basic plot isn't that great but you are so busy having fun it doesn't even matter. I would have given it a full 5 star rating but Kim Basinger's performance in a handful of scenes takes it down a half star. She's just badly miscast. Other then that it's easily in my top 5 of 2016. It's what I hoped Inherent Vice would be but wasn't.
