    Hugely underrated.
When it was released it was semi fairly panned for being a Star Wars ripoff, but this film is so much more than just that. It is brimming with low budget endearing special effects, an extravagant space opera of cheese and melodrama that calls back to the space adventure serials of the 1940s. Directed by the visionary behind Battles Without Honor and Humanity and Battle Royale, there is never a dull moment, as the characters work, the visualsโ€ฆ

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Given its reputation as a video nasty and that one scene, I was expecting a lot more bloodshed and less boring walking about. Likewise, the film is only occasionally ominous with too much down time between people munching. The cannibal himself doesn't show up until an hour in and most of the murder happens in the last 20 minutes. Fetus deletus/10

Half of this movie's problems would be solved by the word "bisexual."

Wow much misogyny, such commentary. Film bros must worship.

It's almost like exploring misogyny, toxic masculinity, domestic abuse, and sexual assault doesn't work tonally with your mid life crisis buddy improv self described "comedy." Usually in movies where you're "not supposed to like the protagonists" there's satirical themes or something deeper going on but that doesn't really work for cinema veritae improv film. Instead it just makes it seem like you find sexism, abuse, and assault quirky or endearing topics. Fucking yikes. At least the cinematography is decent.
