Billy Cunningham’s review published on Letterboxd:
I haven’t seen this film in almost two years since it came out, and even though I have a hard time not giving this film the highest grade, it still is as fantastic as I remember.
This is such a rich story with incredible pacing and reminds me why I love animated movies so much. Not only is this a great film for kids to watch for it’s messages and incredibly light hearted nature, it’s surprisingly mature and honest. There is so much fun to be had with this film from its breathtaking and creative animation to the hilarious and entertaining characters with an underlying message of being your own unique self. Although this film has a lengthy runtime, it has so much to say and doesn’t waste a single moment.
I can say that as a humongous Spider-Man fan, this is one of the greatest things to ever come out of that character. While I am a bigger fan of the MCU’s version the most, those films do lack some of the key ideals and morals of the Spider-Man character. This film understands those key elements of the character and shows them off brilliantly. I really don’t have that many problems with the film at all and I’m so glad that this film turned out as well as it did. This is one of the best superhero films of all time simply because it fully understands its characters and what it means to be Spider-Man.
Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse is a film that needs to be seen by many because it is a film made to celebrate the individual and what makes you, you. It’s a film with important messages, stunningly original animation and overall, it’s an absolute blast to watch and one of the greatest superhero films ever.
