I adored The Killing of Two Lovers when it came out a few years ago. For me, it brought an awareness of a tremendous actor in Clayne Crawford (who I think gave possibly the best performance of that year) and a director in Robert Machoian whose style I was very fond of.

It's quite an experience to sit in a theater and really come to terms with watching a piece of art from one of the very best, especially knowing we may not get many (or in this case, any) more works from them. I feel like I've got to do that twice this year with Miyazaki and Scorsese, and I don't take that for granted.

We're introduced to Cesare--a somnambulist who commits unspeakable crimes under the control of Dr. Caligari--as he…

I thought people were overreacting by saying this is on par with the 1961 original. Shame on me. It might actually be better. I felt like this one just allowed us to get to know some of the characters better, and most the performances live up to the lofty expectations that come with the roles. Mike Faist and Ariana DeBose are terrific, and Rachel Zegler brings a new sense of strength to her role. And of course, Rita Moreno is…
