Ethan Ryan’s review published on Letterboxd:
I don't know where to start on what I love about this film and the series as a whole. Maybe it's the fact they come off just feeling so real, not the dark and gritty realism that has taken over media recently, but the home hitting, "I know that feeling" kind of real.
For a movie that is entirely dialogue it's amazing how it all comes off feeling completely unscripted, the characters umm and err their way through conversations and it just helps to draw you further into wondering what they will say next.
Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy give amazing performances that just feel raw and fresh. This combined with the amazing script felt so personal that it even started an argument with the girl I was watching it with about the differences of men and women .
This is probably one of the most under-appreciated film series out there. If you haven't seen the "Before" series, stop what you are doing and go and watch them all now.
I'm pretty bummed about waiting nine years for the next one though.
