BeBraveMorvern’s review published on Letterboxd:
Brian Cox, Joan Allen, Stephen Lang, Dennis Farina — what could go wrong?
For starters, Mann gives everything the then-trendy Miami Vice sheen. Action sequences seem stilted, the synth score has aged atrociously, and a climactic image is laughable, as is the final corny freeze frame. Having only seen this and The Insider, Mann’s reputation baffles me.
Worse, Petersen’s surprisingly amateurish lead performance — his screen presence made me imagine a Lance Bass action figure.
Allen and Cox do some vivid work in their small roles. She has a lovely moment with an anesthetized tiger, and he clearly has the intelligence and perversity to carry Lecktor further.
