Big Trouble in Little China

Big Trouble in Little China ★★★½

I once said that They Live was Carpenter's oddball film but I gotta take that back because its definitely Big Trouble in Little China. I hadn't seen it in a long time and I forgot just how wild it is. Chinese black magic, supernatural shenanigans, martial arts mayhem and Kurt Russel being Kurt Russel.

I love how this still feels like a Carpenter film although it's very different than his other films. Original and lively characters, ambitious SFX, imaginative environments and unusual storylines give this film a unique flavour among Carpenter's output. The subtle use of humor is also very effective and allows for a very engaging experience.
