I hadn't seen this in a long time and I was happy to see that it holds up pretty well despite it's flaws. When this came to theatres the hype was huge. A film that was long rumored well before it's release and the expectations were high. At the same time combining two iconic horror franchises wouldn't be an easy task. Me and my friends piled into the theatre and awaited a historical moment in horror history.
It may not be nearly as enjoyable as the earlier entries in both series but its also miles better than both of the atrocious remakes of each series that followed. As much as Freddy VS Jason suffers from that drab mid 2000s look and terrible CGI it also has that hyper gory quality that many mid 2000s horror films had in common. And for a movie with historic violence and splatter the gore is a huge highlight. I also think this is the last entry to have a bit of an Elm St sequel feel. It doesn't take itself too seriously and plays it straight. Qualities that were severely lacking in the remakes.
Sure the characters are fairly weak and the dialogue can be cringy at times but underneath the muted visuals, terrible CGI and God awful nu metal there's still plenty of entertainment to be had. Here's to hoping theres still a breath of hope for more quality sequels in these series.
