  • Salem's Lot

    Salem's Lot 1979

    Adam Todd

★★★★ Rewatched by Adam Todd 10 Jan 2023

I remember back when I was probably 12 I watched the trailer for this and was scared literally stiff, then when I had the courage to watch it like a year later I was just like oh it’s not actually that scary.

Watching it now somehow I was caught between both of these feelings, with one scene in particular scaring the living daylights out of me more than I’ve been scared by a film in a long time. The part…

Willem Dafoe slapped his dick and the entire audience clapped! My 7 year old cousin was extremely hyped for this movie due to the Fortnite Northman event but he was miserable and was crying throughout the film.

  • Eaten Alive

    Eaten Alive 1976

    Adam Todd

★★★ Watched by Adam Todd 29 Dec 2022

This film had literally no structure. Characters were introduced simply to be killed 10 minutes after and it just happened over and over again. Also I doubt there was ever a real crocodile in any of the shots. The atmosphere was pretty cool though, it was as if Tennessee Williams saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre and decided it needed more crocodile action.

The occasional appearance from well known actors brought a little bit of comfort to the wildly disturbing proceedings but…

    Avatar 2009

    Adam Todd

    ★★★★ Rewatched by Adam Todd 17 Dec 2022 1

One could call it the culmination of Cameron. There’s a lot of every one of his films in this one, except Piranha 2: The Spawning. It has such a heart that you can’t help but get swept up in the massive spectacle. The scene where he runs for the first time is quite beautiful, it made me almost tear up. Stephen Lang is one of the greatest villains in recent cinema, every time I see him in a film I’m…

  • Speed 2: Cruise Control

    Speed 2: Cruise Control 1997

    Adam Todd

Watched by Adam Todd 16 Sep 2022 5

It gets to the point sometimes when you literally can’t believe what is happening on screen. The filmmakers made some rash decisions on this. In fact just about all of the choices were rash. Why was the entire film so heinous to look at? What was going on with the colours? And quite frankly why is it called Speed 2: Cruise Control? Such a funny title that in it’s nonsense somehow makes perfect sense. It was probably written around the…

  • Carrie

    Carrie 2013

    Paul Hibbard

★★½ Watched by Paul Hibbard 09 Jul 2022

The original Carrie is my favorite movie. It has everything I love. Horror, lust for revenge, female empowerment, complicated vengeance, tight storytelling, uncanny visual style, split screens and viewer culpability.

I could never bring myself to watching this remake. Until now.

As a Carrie and De Palma stan, what I'd love most is if this film did its own thing. Wasn't afraid of the original and had its own voice with its own narrative direction. Yet every scene is an…

    Scream 2022

    Jordan

    ★★★★½ Watched by Jordan 16 Jan 2022

As a huge fan of horror and especially the Scream franchise, I was very excited for this film but also very optimistic as this is the first Scream movie without Wes Craven who sadly passed away in 2015. But I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed this.

I had a few issues with the film, mainly just a not good first act and some iffy acting, but aside from that I had a great time watching this film.…
