I actually found it pretty hard to breathe at the end of this film. How did they manage to do this? The subtlety and layering of emotion in the actors faces, their body language as they walk around a room -all creating far more tension than any hollywood thriller.

Hats off to Kazuo Ishiguro for coming up with one of the best char's ive seen in recent memory, for the Merchant/Ivory team (+ howard Pinter) & DP Tony Pierce-Roberts for the flawless execution

The shot of the hands slipping apart at the end destroyed me

You know where it's going but the dialogue & pace of this is so snappy youre having too good a time to care.

Love the strange obsession this movie has with the Radiohead album 'The Bends'. The riff from 'My iron lung' crops up twice - at the start and towards the end with a slightly sad end-of-second-act variation.

I think Peter Weir is a GENIUS.

He's made Picnic at Hanging Rock, Dead Poets Society and The Truman show and what you don't realise is he script doctored or co-wrote them too.

This films got such a fine balance of memorable characters and exciting set pieces and it also manages to massage your soul and make it feel warm and fuzzy. Some of the scenes are really nice shot and some other the coverage is wack and shouldnt work…
