Ben (a much happier Celtics fan) Hibburd’s review published on Letterboxd:
Raves, fake tits, clunky CGI and frosted tips, man, the early noughties were certainly an interesting time for horror cinema. All that was missing was a Limp Bizkit or Papa Roach soundtrack. This film embodies everything that's great about both franchises, giving equal time to each character whilst also managing to somehow be ridiculously entertaining. It's honestly a pretty impressive feat that this film turned out as well as it did.
I've always had a pretty good time with this film. t's a mash up between to iconic horror characters doing what they do best; killing teens. Who comes to "Freddy vs. Jason" for plot or deep characters? What are people
expecting out of this film? It's got plenty of slick kills (the mid-riff decapitation of mini-Jay Mewes being a highlight.). It has Robert Englund hamming up the scenery for all it's worth. Jason is a freaking tank in this film. And Monica Keena is a solid lead.
The film does feel slightly sluggish towards the hour mark but once the prize fight kicks off between the two behemoths the film regains its footing and becomes a joy to watch. I was surprised by how good the choreography and editing was. You could actually see what was happening. There was some iffy wire work and the CGI could've been touched up in places but for what it is, it's a damn fun action horror film and it deserves a bit more respect.
