Sandler re-makes the Philly underdog trope in the tradition of Rocky, Invincible and Creed, but attempts to cut out all that unnecessary "boring talking" "character development" and "plot" in favor of motivational training scenes. It's highlight reel seratonin... and it kinda works?
Anyway, I can't give any movie about Philly less than 4 stars. Sue me.
The best film I've seen in 2 years that definitely cracks my top 10. Not exaggerating. Watching this after my first semester of college in New England was perfect timing. The story felt relatable and naturally heartwarming. Ben Affleck shines in every scene.
Is it a secret sequel to Good Will Hunting?
In some parallel universe, maybe Uncle Charlie is Will Hunting's best friend Chuckie Sullivan.
