Frances Ha

Frances Ha ★★★★

despite its wonderfully satisfying ending, Frances Ha feels oddly incomplete. maybe it’s in the fact that i don’t want it to end, or probably in the way it perfectly mirrors the fragmentary nature of real life — relationships that wither away almost after they’re born; dreams made dead by the striking blows of reality; or the near impossibility of finding oneself despite incessant effort.

this movie is so wholly Greta. i enjoy the way she writes. sentences fade in the commotion, thoughts are started but never completed, moments are funny when they shouldn’t be, and nothing honestly makes sense. but you know what? that’s exactly how real life is, and Greta captures that perfectly.
