Day 239/366: Tenet
If loud, meaningless booms and long winded exposition won Oscars, 2021’s is gonna be rife with Tenet, undeservedly. Suffice to say, this movie is one of the most anticipated of the year, given its a Nolan joint, and it seemed like an almost, spiritual successor to Inception. This anticipation is poorly rooted however, given Tenet’s lacking purpose and point, besides fantastic practical effects and resonating score. It seems an exploration in ego for Nolan, who takes a decidedly fantastic concept, and chooses to crash planes and reverse footage until the cows come home. In the end, what you’re left with is a weak showing from Nolan, probably his worst; a 2 and a half hour epic that feels like four and has no right ruining the idea it was born of.
