This is a review for the SHOW not the movie.
Figured why not because some tv shows are on Letterboxd.
Star Wars The Clone Wars the T.V. Series is a masterpiece in storytelling. The whole prequel story is tragic and heartbreaking. The way The Clone Wars ties everything together and how we get different perspectives of everything that happened is perfect. Not only are the characters some of my favorite throughout all of Star Wars, but it is some of the best Star Wars ever made. The show honestly sometimes has its ups and downs and isn’t that good but then it comes back from that and gets really good again. There are times when the show feels very episodic and aimed towards children, there are times when it is boring, but honestly the majority of the time the Clone Wars is a perfect representation of Star Wars and everything it represents. Although, at times repetitive, there are many great arcs throughout the series. It is Star Wars at its best.
The animation is solid in the first seasons but improves greatly as the show gets older, and in the last season the animation is absolutely stunning! Utilizing motion capture at times. The music throughout the series is beautiful as well; Star Wars music is always beautiful.
Season seven is a tragic yet perfect ending to the Clone Wars series; and the timelines between Revenge Of The Sith collide seamlessly. The motion capture work used during the Maul and Ashoka fight was awesome, one of the best lightsaber duels in the show. The way the clone troopers who were painted as Ashoka turned on her was heartbreaking, but it was cool to see Order 66 from Ashokas perspective, something I’ve been wanting to see for a while. The final shot of Vader also gave me goosebumps. Darth Sidious is one of the smartest villains of all time, and to see his plan fully pan out from Phantom Menace through the Clone Wars and into Revenge of the Sith is truly something to behold. He is one of, if not, the best villain of all time.
Overall, Star Wars The Clone Wars The T.V. Series in its entirety is a masterpiece. The storytelling, animation, voice acting, characters, and action scenes are all works of art. Some of the best lightsaber duels in all of Star Wars. The animation improved throughout the seasons and by the end it was really stunning. Ashoka is now one of my favorite Jedi (after Anakin and Obi Wan). This show is one of my favorite shows of all time and I’m glad it got the solid conclusion it deserved. Definitely worth a watch for all Star Wars fans, it will really makes you appreciate the prequels more as well. 5 stars and well deserved. *chefs kiss*
