I’m The Only Juan’s review published on Letterboxd:
Damn, and I thought Badlands couldn’t be topped. Now I’m torn, Malick you SOB. Beautiful to look at, great acting and necessary voice-over narration that goes like poetry. More and more, I understand why people say that Malick films are visual poetry. You have sequences that encapsulates what you’re watching and can’t get enough of. I do feel that in this movie he started to realize what he wanted to do as a director, and I’m all for this journey. Might buy it soon on Criterion tbh, that’s how much I loved it.
I do feel like the movie needed to be longer, felt the same way with Badlands. I adore movies that achieve so much in such a little runtime, but events could’ve been more impactful with a wider runtime. Still love it tho!
