After Hours

After Hours ★★★★½

I had forgotten so much of this, turns out. I had somehow forgotten Terri Garr's character and her fabulous apartment and access to "as many copies" as she wants. God, there is just so much good stuff in here. Ages ago I learned in a screenwriting class about "planting and payoff" and this film is full of it and it's fantastic.

I also forgot that "Is That All There Is?" was featured so prominently near the end because if any song fits the existential kind of surrender that is reached by the end here, it's that great, strange song. It's all also a great movie that celebrates all the many strange, humorous, helpful, dangerous, sad, funny, bizzarre strangers you can meet on any night (or day) in New York City. I could go on, but truly this is a movie that everyone needs to see.
