King Kong

King Kong ★★★★

As much as this has aged in spots, and assuredly it has, most of it maintains a timeless appeal. I love all things monster/kaiju and King Kong is not only the first (of the giant ones) but is also the most sympathetic and strangely relatable right up there next to Frankenstein. The stop motion still looks great and as epic as it did in 1933 though I'm appreciating it in an entirely different way than the original audiences I'm sure. Parts are problematic with women and race as one would expect from anything coming from so long ago. Still, I found an entertaining high-flying adventure that holds quite a bit of the old movie magic that is if nothing else purely iconic.

Absolutely recommend for cinephiles and kaiju fans.
