Post divorce effects from kid's view is horrific but Hirokazu managed to handle this heavy subject using a surprisingly light and heart-warming tone with compassion.
In this movie, two siblings of polar different personalities now living apart devise a plan with their friends to travel and meet at a point where each can wish for a miracle.
Escaping reality is common. But at a point in life, one has to stop dreaming and emotionally mature to embrace those complex feelings. It was very moving yet refreshing to see those adorable kids do that.
'I Wish' is not a perfect movie but it helped me connect to everything beautiful about childhood- the mischievous nature, the innocence, purity..etc and I couldn't stop chuckling and smiling till my jaws hurt.
