Before Midnight 2013
We appear, and we disappear.
You watch this film and think: when did Linklater become so cynical? Then you look back at the previous film and realise that actually it was pretty cynical too. Then you go back to where it all began and realise that there was always some cynicism there, even in the hopeful glow of youthful naïveté. Then finally you think about this film again, and realise that maybe it’s not actually so cynical after all. Funny how it works like that.

The Phantom of the Open 2021
Really didn’t expect to like this as much as I did but it’s just incredibly sweet and I had a great time watching it. Mark Rylance is so good, and it’s very funny. Proper heartfelt British comedy done right.
