  this movie gets it in a way no other movies do- devastating stuff, but also one of the most necessary films ever made- Araki had made some great stuff before but this is on another level- he and the performers are brave and thoughtful in a way that is truly astounding- the ending is of this thing is like nothing you've ever seen- it's a fuckin masterpiece

  (also, if you like my band, this was a big inspiration for me when I wrote grimace_smoking_weed.jpeg which, grow up, has nothing to do with grimace)

  Not sure why this story was told- very odd stuff- the circumstances are so not relatable, I’m not sure who said yes to financing this- that said, the main character is very complex and way more sad than you’d ever imagine- the whole thing sort of grinds to a conclusion that is so far away from the initial “premise” of the movie, you wonder why it was about farmers at all- but then the guy gives a monologue about how he’s “just like the bulls” so I guess that’s why- still, pretty solid movie if exceedingly strange and occasionally corny as hell

  Seeing a very upper middle class response to this and what can I say but fuck you

  Update: saw this again- I gotta stop reading the user reviews to this (especially those by friends) because it's really breaking my brain- I think it says way more about the viewer to call the contents of this film cruel or even provocative- why are we so afraid of each other? there's no trick to it- so many films explore these themes, but…
