Mystery of the Wax Museum

Mystery of the Wax Museum ★★★

Voltaire's wax figure was terrifying!

MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM should have resulted in a whole series of Glenda Farrell murder whodunits.

I recently watched (and loved) I AM A FUGITIVE FROM A CHAIN GANG and she plays such the polar opposite character in that one than in WAX MUSEUM. Looking forward to watching more from her during this era.

As for the film itself, Curitz's pre-code horror film looks beautiful in two-strip Technicolor. Unfortunately the film meanders it's way to its conclusion. We get some great atmosphere and genuine creepiness in the first and last 15 minutes, but far too much of the film plays as a lighthearted mystery.

I really only cared for Farrell's character during those parts, which is why I left feeling letdown.
