marie losing her lust for life and becoming subservient to her husband as soon as she had a child broke me i was not okay for several days i hate being a woman and want to scratch my skin off
this film was a refreshing trip in terms of its unique editing, tinting, costume, acting and dialogue (basically everything). i thought its purposeful incoherence and wonderlandish nature being flipped on its head and callously interrupted by the harsh industrial world was genius (and a sad reflection on drastic societal change within the era).
i found ultimate satisfaction in the girls' dining room rampage though, that was punk as fuck.
this film was symbolically and visually beautiful, the only thing that i would have liked to be different was Cléo's epiphanic moment being brought on by Antoine. although I thought his character was charming and well-written, it seemed lazy to have him "fix" her way of thinking after a whole film's worth of internal deliberation lmao
